Where are we headed? We have achieved so much over the years as a society, from improvements in technology, furthering of knowledge, etc. This hasn’t been too slow of a transition either. There are still those among us that remember what life was like when T.V. was new, and there was no such thing as a cell phone, computer, or internet. With all of the newfound things today, you’d think it would also mean that we’ve become a happier and healthier people. Sadly, we have seen this is not the case overall.
Though there are plenty of diets and health plans out there to choose from, they aren’t based off of feelings. They’re based off of ‘how to look like this’ or ‘how to drop 40 pounds in two weeks’. Many are not only unrealistic, but also quite unhelpful when it comes to fulfilling a person’s true goal. In reality, you may want to lose weight, but 40 pounds may not be necessary for your height and body type, and the method suggested by these diets might not be healthy for you, much less plausible.
Then, there are also those who are health obsessed, eating highly specialized diets, that can focus so strongly on certain vitamins and foods only it lacks proper nutrition overall. The question becomes, are these people really healthy, and are they truly feeling better with the indulgence of their obsession?
Even if some of these plans work to some degree, they don’t explain the ‘why’ factor, or provide guidelines to general happiness along with the supposed health benefits. Why spend all your effort to reach a goal that doesn’t intrinsically make you feel any different? If the quality of your life hasn’t changed since being on a diet and shedding the pounds you were told to, what’s the point?
It would be much better to follow a plan that produces results that actually improve your quality of life.
If we all work together, we can bring about a change that improves life for all of us.
